Using Open Ended Questions For Your Blog

One of our friends sent us a “funny” article from a web site on the best way to organize your porn (we have decided not to provide a link).

What made the article interesting was the actual mechanics of the article. As the author was unable to give a good answer they decided to open it up to their readers to give advice on this burning question.

We have talked about blogging as a means to draw customers to your website regularly and add value by showing your expertise in a subject (or range of subjects). What this author did was to create true interaction with his site visitors/readers by asking them how they would answer the burning question of porn organization.

In essence the article became interactive!

In our discussion here at Apex we realized that this technique could be used as a future blog item as well…as one of our programmers brought up a question that could easily be opened up in this fashion.

Hopefully he will actually write the article <grin>.

What makes this techniuque interesting is what it brings to how well your site/blog is doing:

  • Defines if your blog articles are read and how often
  • Creates a sense of community to the topic(s)
  • Shows that you care about the opinion(s) of your readership
  • Shows humility (you’re not a know it all)

With enough comments, the thread becomes a dynamic dialogue between the readers and the author…similar to a roundtable discussion.

Also, whomever the topic relates to in searching for an answer will find your site and the (hopefully) myriad of answers which will intrigue them to check you out and maybe even visit you site more often!
